I was wheeling some sunday and the transmission started not going into gear i think the transmission cooler is not working and the fluid is getting hot and overflowing .Can you check the cooler or is there a pump that pumps the fluid out of the transmission any help is great . It is a 95 yj 30rh transmission and np 231 t case 2.5 .

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? Does it smell burnt?

Would the transmission flat-out not go into gear or was the transmission slipping? Did you run a lot of hills while wheelin?

Anybody with an auto should consider a temp guage for the transmission output to the cooler.

Checked the fluid today and it did look a little burnt and creamy . I was on some hills but mostly slow driving and some mud it started at the end of the trip. I took the transmission cooler off today to see if it was stoped up and it was not what next . Bounty tell me about the gauge that you are talking about. thanks

You put a "t" in your line going from the transmission to the cooler, and put a temperature guage there.

I'd definatly change the fluid before you drive it any more though.

It could be that your cooler is just not able to cool it enough. What size is it? You may also want to put a seperate electric fan on the transmission cooler itself.

I'm going to want to run a cooler on mine when I do the 700r4 conversion in my TJ. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to put it? I'm thinking the only good place is right in front of the radiator. I've done this on my GM truck and the Monte Carlo I have and it's worked well. I just don't want to overheat the engine in the Jeep. It looks like theirs a lot less space for the transmission cooler there.

I changed the fluid and filter today and it helped it alot . I also checked the cooler shot air in it and it was not stoped up i order a b&m gauge for the transmission temp and maybe it will help thanks for the help .
