Dumb question. I'm a newer Jeep owner--2004 Wrangler. When switching the transfer case into neutral, should I feel it actually slip into some groove? I can't tell if it is in or not.

The only thing you would feel is the detent between settings but not feel any groove . One way to tell if it is in neutral is to shift the trans. to first gear and see if it moves. If the t.case is not completely shifted to neutral, then you will hear some grinding.
