I want to put good offroad tires on my Jeep. I am looking for suggestions. I heard that the Goodyear MTR are good (?)

I heard the MTR is a good on / offroad tire too. I run the Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip, also a good tire for on / offroad but a little pricey.

Goodyear's MT/r's are good but you have to rotate them every 3000 to 5000 miles, there a soft compound.
I have ran two sets of 35 inch MT/r's for over 68,000 miles and I am just about ready to put on a new set. So expect 30-35K out of them.

What terrain do you run?
What % is on road and what % is off road.
Lots of Dry rocks and 50% trail, mt/r's is my suggestion, and like mentioned, rotate, rotate, rotate.
Wet Rocks, mud, dirt Typical north east trails, little to no street driving, can't beat a by ply swamper TSL.
Also, for a jeep that sees a lot of streets, I don't care for the tire, but BFG's Mud Terrains are very streetable, I had a set for atleast 45K miles. they were almost slicks when done, but they last.

I wouldn't get the MT/R for the northeast, they flat out suck in the mud. Stick with a Swamper TSL, bias for primarily offroad or radial if road manners are important. Interco's TrXus MT is a good all-around tire.

I think you had mentioned in an earlier post that you were considering modifying this jeep. Be sure not to buy a tire now that will be too small if you plan on lifting the jeep in the future. You'll be mad if you spend money on a set of 31's, then go out and get enough lift to put 35's under your jeep. You might check out the market for some used tires for the time being, and then trade up when you lift the jeep (presuming that's in your plans).

While I wasn't really disappointed with the MT/R's in mud, they did wear incredibly unevenly, even when rotated.
The TrXus is an excellent recommendation.

I started with BFG TA/KOs and had a lot of sidewall trouble. Last weekend on the Spring Creek trail one of the rigs blew a sidewall of a TA/KO tire.
I do love my MTRs. They run the Rockys quite well.
I've seen Swampers in CO but they are not good in snow. Nice tough sidewalls though.

BFG MudTerrains - ive had mine for over 3 yrs and only lost about 1/8" tread off them (just checked tonite) - like them better than the AT's i had on my old jeep (which i couldnt wear out either) - just my $.02

I had Firestone Destination MTs on my XJ for about a year and when I sold it, there was around 40 percent tread left. 90 percent of the driving was road so I wouldn't suggest these. They wear down too quick. I do have the Destination ATs on my TJ and they seem to be holding up fairly good.
