Swaybar/ Trackbar removal

Trackbar, shmackbar!!! I notice absolutely no difference after removing the rear trackbar while on the road (But I do have rear shocks). Disconnecting the swaybar will give you more "body roll", and to what degree you will experience this depends on your leaf springs. Some of the newer disconnects are much nicer and easier to remove&install, but cost a bit more.

 Once you remove the trackbar, it would be easy enough to put it back on if you're not happy with it!

Question, I saw the statement "purchased dissconnects are crap" and I have heard it before. Fabbing disconnects is not an option for me but I want some real soon. Please tell me what I can do to buy a good set of them or is there a specific set of instructions for fabbing that I can take to my family mechanic?

Thanks,
Lady

why is fabbing not an option... it just requires some simple parts you can buy at the hardware store... and much much much cheaper... there really is no fabrication to it... just removal and replacement as far as i know

I'm not sure who, but someone on this site recommended replacing the bolts with same size pins, then you could use a washer and cotter pin to hold them on.

The new JKS "quicker" disconnects are better, and teraflex make a really nice set as well. I am going to buy a set of the teraflex version this weekend.

Thank you Copper and Snitty,

Snitty, I am otherwise occupied in life right now and don't have the time to spend with my jeep, even with something small as disconnects. I haven't wheeled in a month and don't forsee it anytime soon. I am not mechanically inclined so anything I do under the jeep I want to learn about ahead of time and be sure I do it right. Ulatimtely, with the zillion things going on with me right now, the purchased sets appeal to me more.

I appreicate the info!

Holley pro -jection

Lady, I will suggest the same thing I suggest to everyone else. JKS Quicker Disconnects.

Reason Againt Fabbing:
No where to store the end-link except for a Zip-tie
the sway bar has to be pushed WAY up to get the end-links to where you can tie them.
Non-adjustable if you get a lift.

Reasons for JKS:
Takes 30 min per endlink to put on
Full swivel at sway bar to move out of the way of any binding.
Retainer pins that are mounted to the frame for easy storage when disconnected.

and the BIGGEST and best reason for JKS

It is a One person job to connect and disconnect EVEN on non-level ground.

Older superlift...I think

Store bought discos are good cheap and easy to install. Why make them. I only remove one side of my discos and I dont have to tie anything up.

Thank You everyone for your comments. I will consider the jks quicker disconnects, as L33 said. They do sound easy and I know they are popular.

Lady

Check out the teraflex disco's:

@ Quadratec:
97-03 TJ QUICK DISCONNECTS 0-2 IN LIFT QDFT-S
Product # 16191 600
Price: $ 104.95

They are a little less $ than JKS

I removed my sway bar when I first got my jeep and put new suspension in it. Didn't notice a difference in handling at all. Now that my suspension is a little over 2 years old and has gone through a beating I decided to put my sway bar back on to see if I noticed a difference. I noticed a huge difference in lack of body roll with the sway bar back on. It was like driving a whole different jeep. Even with the sway bar out with older suspension, it still handles ok, just not as good as it could with it in or disconnects on.

i went to take my sway bar and rear track bar off the other day but they ain't coming off. I guess i'm gonna have to break out the sawz-all to take em off.

Well, considering it was the Rear Anti Sway bar, it Sways a little more in the rear on turns but nothing I can't get used to :-D but NOW I gotta get back up on the Ramp and see what I can do :-D

I am wondering. . . Since I removed my rear Swaybar I haven't been able to make her Wobble. I don't see how this could cause it, but, do any of you think it could???

Tugly has a new friend!

Is that a TJ you removed the rear swaybar from? I've heard they are downright scary without it, and never heard of the rear swaybar limiting that much travel.

I didn't do it untill I heard from Other TJ drivers. We have a few here on Jeeps that have removed the rear Sway. and I barely notice a difference. If I thought it was a BMW or something like that and tried to take corners at 80 then I may have problems. But all the weight is at the front and still regulated by the Front Sway. I should be fine.

Either way the Wobble seams to be gone.

::Edit::
When I hit the Ramp again We will compare my Pics from last time. I think I will get much more travel.

Did you take 'before' measurements on the ramp?

Glad to hear it works for you, I agree about the 'It's not a sports car so don't drive it like one' theory.
