strange clanking

my tj's making this weird clanking noise. sounds like something hefty is loose when i go over bumps at low speed especially when i happen to be turning. i also notice a kind of clanking vibration right after she turns over at times. i was thinking maybe a loose swaybar, but could this be something like a busted motor or transmission mount? i know this is kind of a generic problem and could be pretty much anything, but i thought i'd just throw it out there to see what everyone thought. i haven't got a chance to look under her because it's been like 10 degrees here lately.

I had a strange banging noise when I hit bumps too. It turned out to be a loose trac bar.

Check:
  • Track bar bolts and upper mount bolts
    Control arm bolts
    Swaybar bolts
    Transfer case skid bolts
    Transfer case shift linkage

I took my rear control arms off and from the outside the looked great. Problem was the bushing/sleeve inside was worn into a very large hole with a small bolt going thru it. Point is you will not be able to see it until you take them apart. You could take a prybar-lever to force the control arms around and look for excessive play.
