Stinger?

Stops you from flipping over frontwards when going down steep rocks or hills.

I believe that it's also supposed to help you get up and over very steep obstacles - if you had just a bumper then you'd hit it head on, but a stinger can help you slide up and over.

With the light wheeling that I do these end up being more about looks, but if you're really into rock climbing then they could help.

This is what it does.

Only once have I had to redo the hurcaliner on mine.

The purpose it to keep you from flopping on your lid, it turns you sideways letting you land on the side of your jeep instead of the unprotected top.

I have a rockhard sport cage, bolted to the floor. Would I rather land upside down or flop over smashing the side? Tuff call.

I run the same cage, but I did add the frame mounts. I have seen those cages blown after a multible roll over where it blew all the bolts out of the clamping knuckles. Still rather lay her on the side than do a flop on its lid. The back isn't welded to the frame unless you added some custom frame mounts, so there still a possibility of the cage punching through the tub and collapsing the driver compartment.

Rolled a bunch of times, I will take a side roll over a front over rear flop anyday.

That said, I think stingers are stupid. if your in a situation such as the picture above, your wheeling skills need a major reality check, skinny pedal on the right to drive out of it. Regarding roll over protection, I prefer and run a radiator hoop. I find in a rollover, the force applied to the hoop in relation to the attachment point is far more favorable than that of a stinger (90 degrees versus 30-60 degrees)

To back east wheelers the stinger is funny looking and un-necessary. But to wheelers in the western states its a fact of wheeling out here. The main topographic terrain is large boulder fields, washes, or flat desert running. Driving down dirt roads isn't that exciting, going down washes leads you right into some nasty boulder fields so thats the main action out here. Bouldering without the added security of a well made stinger is just asking for it. Like a roll cage, you buy it with hopes you never have to use it.
