Steering "rub"

Having a problem with my '03 Overland. Seems when I turn the steering wheel to the left, it sounds and feels like it is rubbing on something. Now it's starting to do it when I turn to the right as well, just not all of the time. I can hold the steering wheel with both hands and lift up and rock it from right to left and it makes a popping sound. Not sure they are related. Any ideas?

When you say that "it sounds like it's rubbing", do you mean the tires, or the steering wheel? It is like a plastic on plastic sound (I ask because the steering wheel in my 05 does the same thing).

The steering wheel sounds and feels like it is rubbing on something. Does sound like a plastic on plastic kind of thing...

If it's a faint sound of rubbing, check down below towards the firewall particularly on the rubber booth where the steering column shaft go through it. Install some grease on the booth and the shaft and se if it goes away.
