Skid Plate and Transfer case

When I removed my skid plate from my 06 Jeep Wrangler, the transferr case moved down some and tilted forward. I guess the skid plate supports the xfer case, so my question is, will this damage anything, I have to take the plate off again to change out my muffler. How can I support the xfer case while removing the skid plate, I do not see a way. Can I just allow the xfer case to hang down for a minute while I get a jack under it to lift it up? I just dont want to mess anything up and I am so new to anything working on vehicles.

i don't think it would cause a problem if you let it hang for a little while you get a jack stand under it to support it.

I wouldn't suggest it, as everything from the motor mounts rearward relies on the transfer case skid for support. Letting it hang relies on the transfer case linkage and a few other measly connections to support the weight. Dangerous to you and harmful to the jeep.

Throw a board on a floorjack and put slight pressure beneath the transmission right in front of the TC skid before removing the skid.

wow really ??? i wish i'd known i had mine hang for over 12 hours one time

I'm with Bounty. I have a double stacked 2x8 that I always use between my jack and the transmission in situations like that.
