Resurect Jeep

Have a 1990 Cherokee. Ran fine when I parked it 3 years ago. Has 290000 hard miles on it, and I want to restore it. My first Item is to rebuild motor. I am interested in slight upgrades that would add power, but dont want to go nuts. Maybe cam and exhaust upgrades. Chip? Im looking for sugestions. It has the Inline 6 with MPI, but according to info I have found MPI did not start till 91. Late model 90's have MPI?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

All 4.0L have MPEFI. People get confused because Wranglers didn't get EFI till '91 (and the 4.0L)

Thanks!,

Any recomendations on places to get master rebuild kits? Im in NC, and I have found many for around 4-500 bucks on line. This is a project my son and I are doing together, and will eventuilay be his Jeep. Im trying to find a place that not only offers the kits, but upgrade parts as well (Cam, Exhaust, Chip, etc) prefereable someone who KNOWS Jeeps. When I use to do VW's all I needed was JC Whitney, but they are not the same company they use to be.

PAW has master rebuild kits. as far as cams go look at crane cams since you are in the south east. or take a look at hesco. they offer stroker kits cams heads and fuel system upgrades. another option is to check the local wrecking yards for 4.0 h.o. engines out of any jeep vehicle. all of the external engine parts like intake and exhaust will bolt right up to the newer engines with the proper gaskets. a little junk yard diving goes a long way when it comes to jeep 4.0 engines. look for 93-94 intake manifolds. most of the sensors match up. the intake and throttle body flow more air and the exhaust manifold flows more, but requires some modification to the exhaust head pipe.

OK yal, Im about ready to pull motor, and i have bout' wore google out. I have found all kinds of information, and think I have a good idea about what I need to do. Basicaly crank, rods from older AMC and a new cam, I just cant belive no one offers a rebuild kit with those parts. I have been to all the sites I could find. I can get master kits, and I can get stroker kits, but I cant seem to find one kit with everything. Anyone got any secret sites I dont know about? Also, if you factor in machine shop cost, rebuilding myself is a hard sell. Any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated.

Just got my build sheet, Did 1990 have heated mirrors? If so how to operate?

Doesnt have engine or gear ratio's either

Ok folks, need some help, Got rebuild kit, and block back from machine shop. Everythinh going well will dad Calls me and says we may 180 out on cam/crank. The cam and crank geers are alighned on dot, and 15 pins apart. He thinkgs however we may be 180 out and want to be sure before we put timing cover on. my question is , how ca we verify crank and cam are sycronized properly? thank again for your help

Hey yall, just about got motor back together but I pulled a stupid and didnt mark timing cover or oil pan bolts. Some of them are different. Anyone have a pic of which bolt goes where? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Bob

Sorry. Life has been in the way lately. My father-in-law passed of Leukemia and been kinda bummed since my mom died last year of lung cancer.

No pics but test fit the bolts and you should have 1/2" sticking out average, including the brackets
