Radio "bumps" in and out

Hi,

I have a 1996 Jeep Country Classic 4WD 5-speed with 352,251 miles on it. The radio is original and has taken to going silent when I hit a minor bump or come to a stop, and it comes back, randomly, when I hit another minor bump or come to a stop--however, this is NOT automatic! Sometimes the sound is missing for weeks, and at other times it works for an entire drive.

I know very little about cars--this was my late husband's baby--but it's important to me to keep Jeepy going, so I am willing to try minor repairs. PepBoys, my usual garage, does not "do" radios, but I want to try and repair this myself, if possible, rather than taking it to the very expensive audio "experts" in town.

Can anyone suggest what I might look for to "fix" this situation?

Thanks,

Barb :)

I'd start by checking the connections on the back of the radio and make sure they are secured properly.

Thank you for the suggestion! Do you know if these connections can be reached from inside the vehicle? Or do I have to locate these in the engine compartment? As you may have guessed, I know next to nothing about cars...
