Power steering pump swap

I have a 92 wrangler, 2.5 litre. It originally had a power steering pump with a remote resevoir, hanging up by the radiator. Is there any reason I could not install an all in one unit where the pump and resevoir were all one piece?

I am guessing your refering to a P-series saginaw pump similar to what is on GM's and Fords. PSC supposedly makes/made a bracket to allows for a P-series pump to be bolted on to / installed on a 4.0 to replace the TC series pump, I do not know if they still make it, sell it, or if there was ever one available for a 2.5l

wondering as to why you are looking to upgrade? are you planning on full hydro? otherwise, I do not see a benfit to the retro fit if you stay traditional steering.

Quick edit, I think some 99+ 4.0 had a TC pump with integrated resevoir, I do not know what exact model though.

I thought it would be a cleaner install with 2 less hoses and clear up a lot of space. I dont really have a plan for that space, it just stikes me as a really ineffecient design, but i might be the only one that thinks that

Not really, by the shear fact that you are running the fluid through tubes from a remote location you are;
1. cooling the power steering fluid
2. reducing cavitation in your steering gear
3. effectively you can hold more fluid since you are also filling the supply tube.

Most aftermarket performance steering systems, both full hydro, assist and traditional will use a seperate resevoir for the above reasons, plus it makes it easier to package on the front of an already congested engine. (not refering specifically to your 2.5L)

My husband took apart our power steering pump with remote resevoir and can't remember how to hook up the hoses. Can you tell me or send a diagram.

dang, thats a bummer (but it does happen) i am sure someone can post a pic of how theirs is run
