sounds like the battery, but it could be there is not a charge coming from the alternator.yes autozone will test them. the store here likes them to be in the vehicle but they can do it............odax  [addsig]

Definately sounds like a issue with your altenator. If it was strickly a battery issue, the car would continue to run from the charge that the alternator is supplying[addsig]

It may, but it will burn up your alternater too. :-O [addsig]

Take the batery out, take it to Autozone. They will test is. If the charge os too low, they will charge it for yo for FREE. If the battery is good, then put it back onyour Jeep and drive directly to autozone and have them do an alternator diagnostic test. They will tell you if your alternator is working or not. If it is not charging, i will probably be your alternator. If this doesn't solve your problem, let me know , and I'll give you a few suggestions. -al[addsig]

Don't take your alternator off unless you have to. Also, if you buy the alternator from Autozone, get the lifetime warranty, it's well worth it.hope this helps.-al[addsig]

if you do go get it tested, go to another place and test it too, like a garage, most will do it free or cheap... i had the same problem, but it didn't redline... autozone told me it was my alternator... i didn't quite have the money for a new one, so i got a battery, because i did have the money, and i didn't know how old it was, but there was a lot of corrosion and crap on it... after i changed the battery, problem solved... i've been on that same alternator for almost a year now, even ran my plow with it... i think its going bad now, because i get the near-silent whistle when i rev it sometimes... but its been doing that for 6 months now.[addsig]

the alt and batt are a married couple. if one goes out, the other will carry the burden until it too fails. once that happens, either unit that carried the load will have been stressed. if you can, replace both at the same time - cables and all - this way you will have a reilable electrical system.

while you're at it now's a great time to ensure all of your grounds are intact. engine to frame, batt to frame, engine to batt. i rewired bluebelle along with the duel replacement and the difference was dramatic.

a little more money, more time, but how much time does it take to find someone to jump you?
