oil leaking

I have replaced a blown head gasket, the valve cover and the attatchment to where the oil filter goes was leaking and that was replaced all about 2 years or so ago. I'm leaking oil again not to much I just dislike when my vehicle leaks. Any suggestions on how to find a leak and what types of things might and oil leak to do an engine. I always check it before a long drive and such. Just trying to get a heads up on what to do. Thanks

CJ, YJ, TJ? How's your oil pressure reading on your guage? If you're getting some weird readings on your guage, might want to check your oil pressure sending unit. Went out on my wife's YJ and that sucker was spittin' oil like you wouldn't believe. Can leak real small and all of a sudden go nuts! Something to check.

its an XJ 1990. the guage stays pretty constant its not at 40 but a little below it. I didnt change my oil for a little over 4 months and a lost about a quart so im not sure if that just burned off because its old or it leaked out i did a lot of long distance trips in that time period. I just noticed the leak last week when i had the chance to park in my garage at my cabin and saw the drip about the size a little bigger then a silver dollar.

I guess on a side note though. My coolant guage fluctuates between 210 and say 180 constantly as i drive. is this normal? is my cap losing pressure?

Any oil in the airfilter?

A common cause of frequent sporadic oil leaks is a bad PCV system, the system is clogged or otherwise messed up and allowing pressure to build in the crankcase instead of properly venting to the intake. This pressure has to go somewhere, as you've found out.

I've got a good link for this on your specific make and model, but I'll have to post it tomorrow when I'm on my home computer.

If the pcv system is clogged, you will often find that the engine can get a little sluggish after it is warmed up and revving for a while, the pressure builds inside the engine and it can't run as well... if there is NOWHERE for the pressure to go, its gonna start pushing seals. Take it from bounty and check your pcv system to make sure the engine is vented properly

I am blowing oil onto the filter and I thought i may have fixed that last summer. I replaced the rear grommet on the valve cover because it was pretty sealed up. Should I check the front one as well to see if that is old and clogged. Is there a way to check the rest of the system to? Thanks for the website post.
