Oil leak at filter bracket

Help, My 4.0 6cyl has developed a leak at the oil filter bracket. I do not see a gasket so I assume that there are o-rings at the engine / bracket. My question is how does the bracket attach? All I see is a single 5/8" (wrench size) hex bolt head. Is this the mounting bolt?

what year is your jeep? my friend has a '94 grand cherokee and the filter bracket has been recalled and replced with a bracket that aligns the filter in a different way. i think it makes it parallel to the ground rather than at the angle a stock setup. [addsig]

1993 G. Cherokee, filter installs in the bottom up position. I have not seen any recalls on the filter bracket. Just a boat load of others though.

Matt83840: its not a recall

dingus84: ...

Matt83840: offically

dingus84: did yours leak?

Matt83840: but the dealers / mechanics recomend it

Matt83840: a little

dingus84: yeah

Matt83840: not much to woory about though

dingus84: yeah but his is leaking a good bit i assume

dingus84: where did you get yours done?

Matt83840: over the summer

dingus84: WHERE

dingus84: not when

Matt83840: some redneck mechanic in collegeville

dingus84: ah

dingus84: ok

dingus84: what would you call it

dingus84: ?

dingus84: oil filter alignment doohickey?

Matt83840: oil filter adapter

Matt83840: it just turns the postistion of the filter and moves it away from the engine block

Matt83840: the block heats up and makes the o-ring break on the filter
