No heat in 2008 Jeep Cherokee

I own a 2008 jeep cherokee Laredo but I must admit I'm clueless about cars, repairs, and anything else regarding vehicles. I always feel as if I'm getting ripped off when I go to the dealer for any reason. If anyone can help out here it would be much appreciated.. Here's the problem: I Started my jeep this morning and for no reason at all the heat just isn't working and it blows cold air out all the vents. The temperature gauge is working normal and I know when I bring it in they're goin to tell me it's at least $1000 if not more. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what it may be or what I can do to avoid getting killed at the dealership. Thanks so much for any help..Joe

Welcome to Jeepz.com Joe.

I know you said that your temperature gauge is working normal, but can you verify that the Jeep gets as hot as normal, or does it seem to be running a bit colder? The reason I ask is that your thermostat could have gotten stuck open - this would cause the Jeep to take a much longer time to warm up (if it ever does warm up).

Thanks so much for responding.. I'm not really sure . Everything seems the same except that cold air blows out.. I had a friend look at it and he said something about a "heat ventralaton" and a modom door. Sound familiar? Also, would this be covered under the new lifetime warranty that Chrysler offers now? Thanks again

Since diagnosing a heater control issue over the net is difficult. First when you start the jeep and run it for ten minutes or so does the engine temp come up to normal?
If it does than its not a thermostat issue.

Since you only took it to a dealer for an qoute, take it to your local firestone, big o or any other national repair place and get a qoute. This will give you an idea if one place it trying to rip you off. Call your locall AAA, they will give you names to local places that are AAA certified.
