I am proud to say that i will be getting my first jeep within a week. I am currently looking right now and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on buying a new jeep. Thanks and i look forward to being a part of the message board

If the sales manager doesn't hate you by the time you leave the dealer then you havent worked him hard enough on the price

Hey mgaron welcome to the board :) and congrates on the soon to be new Jeep. As for advice on a buying a new one, first let us know what kinda you are getting. (A TJ I hope  ) Then we can focus a little more on the whole thing. But as with any car purchase do your homework before you go to the dealer. The Web is the perfect tool for finding out all kinds of info and this site is one of the best. Hope this helps. Later

Make sure you get a list of all the options. Not the stereo kind but the rear end and transmission and engin kind. Let us know more about yourself as well cause the way you plan to use makes a big difference as well. Welcome to jeepz and get ready for the ride of your life in that new Jeep. tug

I am 19 and looking at a Rubicon. This is my first 4x4 but i plan to keep it untill it cant run anymore(a long time hopefully). It will be my daily commutor but i do plan to go wheeling in it atleast two weekends a month, if i can find people to go with me. I need to start learning the ropes but i thought that a rubicon would be good because not many modifications are needed for a beginner off roader(let me know if im wrong.) I hope thats enough stuff and just let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks.

shackle problem

Get a decked out Sport, Much cheaper and just as good of a ride. The "Rubicon" has the same suspension as my X as far as I have found. But the Dana 44s for the Sport is the ONLY thing I would want different than what I have now. Good luck on your purchase but save the money and build your Own Jeep.

I would not saving money but dont the lockers and the 4:1 Gear Ratio make a difference? Also can you get a Dana 44 in the front? I live in Louisiana so i wont be climbing over rocks. Will there be any reason to get the 4:1 ratio. Thanks Agian

Get what YOU want. If you don't, then, you will never be happy with it. But hey, what you want is a Jeep with Wheels and a Motor right ;)

you can use ANY Jeep ANY where. Ok so maybe you will not have Lockers. they are 260 from quadratec. so you don't get the nobby tires, I have been quoted the lowest at 908 for rims and tires M/T. 2" lift cost you $200. So far we are STILL way below the cost difference. ;)

SOLD

Thanks for all the help i just need to decide now. One more question though. Does the Gear Ratio really make a difference?

Thanks agian

I can't honestly comment on that. I haven't studied up on the gear ratio that much. I don't think that in your case it will matter enough to warrent the change unless you are getting 33+ tires.

The 4.11s come with the 4 cyl. engines to help that engine get around easier... the 6 cyl. comes with a 3.07 ratio since it has more power. I'm not sure if you can mix it up, you may since your buying from the dealer. If you plan on putting larger tires on it anytime soon I would try to get the 4.11s cause you will need the lower gearing to push the new larger tires (33" would match well with 4.11s) As for the Dana 44, I say go for it. Again, if your planning on off roading with the bigger tires, the D44 is less likley to break. I am upgrading to a Dana 44 now.

Oh and may I suggest the 4.0 6 cyl with a 5 spd. :D

There are other advantages to gettinga Rubicon, besides the lockers, D44's FRONT and rear (you cant get a D44 front on other jeeps unless it is aftermarket) tires, etc. You get all of this covered by your warranty! 70k miles on drivetrain includes the better transfercase, and your rear locker (the front one is not considered necessary drivetrain) I was weighin out the pros/cons, and I just told myself that if I got a sport, and sunk some money into it, I would still kick myself everytime I saw a Rubicon! This is my 3rd Jeep, and I absolutely love it! Whatever you decide, GET A D44 REAR END!!!! I learned the hard way, and blew my D35 on my YJ last summer!

Lock 'em up and keep Jeepin'!

Go for the Rubi my man. I absoulutly love my 99 Sport (with the Dana 44 8) ) but if the Rubi was out then I would have gone for that hands down.

Man if you have the money to buy a Rubicon, go for it. Yea real Jeeps are built and all that testosterone goobly goop and stuff but if you buy a stock jeep and go to building it your warranty will go out the window. I know they say the warranty is not any good if you wheel but if you have a good lawyer or just a fighting sprit they will have to hold up their end of the bargan. Talk to the dealer when you buy it. Tell em you plan to use it like a jeep and get it in wrighting that they know it up front. Now use the rubi and ride on the fact that it is the most advanced out of the box Jeep ever made. You can make it a monster after the dealer no longer has to fix it. If I were going to buy a new jeep and had the moey I would buy one. I will say if I had the money to buy a new jeep I would use it to build an older jeep and go on Vacation too though. Tug

Just a couple of things, with a rubicon, you also get a SYE factory! 10 times more durable.

As for lockers from quadratec for $260, ya but they are still not the quality as rubi's If you want to get something like the rubicon has factory, you will have to drop about $2000

about $650 front locker
$650 rear locker
$300 compressor
$300-400 to install.

Not for nothing, but he said this is his first 4X4, I know he can't set up a rear end with a locker!

D44 option, worth it.
31" tires, worth it.
Heavy Duty NP 231 T Case, worth it
3/16" rocker protection, worth it
High mount air filter, worth it.

To take the money and make a sport equipt equally with a rubi, is not worth it!
Not saying they aren't capable, I saw a bone stock, 27" tire 93 YJ do some crazy chit on saturday! Bixxle
