New Jeep???

In the past I had a 89 YJ and it was basically a piece of $%^&!! It was a second vehicle that sat in garage and soaked up my money. I ended up selling it. A while back and lost my shirt!! I am now looking at getting a TJ and need some opinions. I am looking at the Rubicon or a Sport maybe a X. I want my money to go far when I purchase this one and want all the stuff I would add on later. Should I go a head and spend the extra money on a Rubicon or get a lower model? Any input would be great!!

My opinion is that if the Rubicon is built the way you want it and don't expect to go any higher or with much bigger tires than go for it. But If you think you want to go a lot bigger you might consider get one of the lesser models and build it the way you want it.

IMO, the Sport with the 30" wheel and tire group is the best option. You get the D44 rear end, high pressure shocks, and the I6. The only real advantage over this that you get with the Rubicon is the slightly larger (31" vs 30") tires and the Rubi also gets a D44 in the front (and I guess other suspension bits are a little different, but I'm not real familiar with the specifics). The Sport with the 30" wheel/tire group can be had for $25-27k depending on exactly what other goodies you get along with it. The Rubi will run you $28-32k (from what I saw when I bought my new TJ about a month ago).

dont forget the Rubi's 4:1 xfer case for 4lo and doesn't the Rubi come with air lockers? (at least in the rear?)
Yeah, it's more than tires and front axle.

Better transfer case

Fixed TC output instead of a slip yoke

Air lockers

4 wheel disc brakes

16" wheels

4.10 gears in the axles

If I were to buy a TJ, I'd buy a Rubi. The D44 axles are not as strong as the old ones, but still an upgrade from the D30/D35 combo. The lockers, gearing, TC and TC output are what would sell me on it.

wider fender flares

what would the $ for $ be to convert to all the goodies??? worth the added expense of the Rubi? like if you just wanted the 4:1 or lockers? hmmmm... still big bucks.... (just jealous.... thats all....)
