I got creative today and bought a cone filter, some breather filters, and a pvc elbow... I tossed it all on in about 20 minutes. Now when the snow is off the roads, I can see what kinda help it did for me. Its really not a cold air setup, just a higher surface area setup. I had a K&N in my stock airbox. Wonder how this generic cone works as a replacement for the stock/KN setup. With this setup, it all fits fine and also bought some space for an air tank for my next mod, which will make me the first around here with onboard air.[addsig]

i wanna see some pics, sounds like you have a good setup going... being a K&N fan, i'm wondering why you didn't pick up a k&N cone filter...[addsig]

So far its working to my expectations. There are a few reasons I didn't go with K&N... First being that AutoZone didn't have any, they only had cylindrical ones with no inner filter... and that is where I wanted to spend my gift card that pops got me for Christmas. Another reason being that if they were in stock, they costed the exact amount of my gift card, and I had limited cash on me. Another reason is that I want to test the design first. I really don't want to spend too much if it might not work, I was kinda going on a "let's buy some crap and see what i can do with it" idea. I really love K&N.... they do make a fabulous product... and would suggest it to anyone reading here. If it was in stock, and I had the money, and I knew it was gonna work as well as it did... I would have one in there now. I'll get it all straightened out and put together a little better then I'll get some pics up for sure. As of now... from my stock intake boot, I have a 90 degree elbow going outward toward the area right in front of the brake booster. I figure its pretty safe from water/bad things there....Though, it gives me no ram or cool air effect. Even with the stagnant engine bay air, it frees up the flow quite a bit. The two hoses that ran to the air box before... well... the valve breather is now capped with a universal breather filter (paid a lot for this NEAR worthless item because all they had were the designer rice-boy ones)... and from the "whatever-the-hell-the-other-one-is", I found some little crap filter that fit it for $1.99. I'll chop that hose down a little and tuck it away, and clean up the rest of the project, then I'll get some pics up to you guys... later.. thanks for the interest[addsig]

I did basically the same thing as you except I used 2 45 degree elbows. Instead of capping the 2 pipes that run into the breather box....i replaced them with rubber hoses and drilled 2 holes the same size as each hose and then put them in...a bit of silcone makes a good seal. To keep the filter dry and free from mud I swung the whole assembly over so that the filter sits right on top of the engine. Someday I'll get some pics up of my setup...gotta take them first hehe.[addsig]

The reason I didn't go above the engine like many aftermarket systems is that the air up there is VERY warm. I figured the spot I put it would have a cooler air draw due to the openings below it in the bay. But no matter where you put it... if its in the engine bay... its getting warm air.[addsig]

Is there a site with instructions to do this little mod? That would be helpful...

its a very simple mod... there are many ways to go about it... do you want a cold air setup?... do you want a ram air effect?... do you want to route the breather hoses back in the intake or give them their own filter?... do you have any other aftermarket accessories that you have to route the tube around?... do you want the most efficient way to do it, or just something better than the stock box?... either way... its all simple... ask yourself all these questions and get back to us on how you want it.... I (as well as many of the rest of our great jeep family) would be glad to give advice and instructions on how to do it.[addsig]
