New guys with some questions

Hey guys I'm new here been looking around for a while and have a couple questions if I can get some help. I have a 1989 yj 4.2 with a4 speed trans stamped on the side T-98 and a 231 transfer case. One of my questions in would it be okay to run a 3/8 rubber fuel line to the mechanical fuel pump instead of the hard like? Reason being is the hard line is just hanging under my engine and I can't figure out where it's suppose to be bolted to. Second question is I have a wire coming from the main harnest to the transmission that I can find where it plugs into. The wire end is a round rubber end with two round female sockets anyone have any idea where it's suppose to go? Thanks 8)

Yes, on the rubber line.
The other sounds like the neutral safety switch

Welcome to Jeepz. Your fuel line should have these little metal tabs that bolt to the frame to hold your line in place. The hard line is a lot safer than rubber. I try use as little rubber line as possible. The plug for the t-98 is located on the top of the transmission. You may have to feel around to find it. It's near the rear of the top plate, you'll find two little metal tabs. The plug should slide onto it. Those wires are for your reverse lights. Hope this helps.

Cool thanks a lot. There are mental tabs are there but I'm not finding a place they will line up to the frame spent 20 min trying to find somewhere for fustrated and crawled out from under it haha. Gana try again in the morning

Are you sure you have a T-98??? That is a very old jeep trans and would be suprised if it is in a yj.

Features
The T98 is ~11-7/8" long. It has a deep first gear of 6.39:1 and is direct-drive in fourth gear. It's reverse ratio is 7.82:1.
The T98 is fully synchronized in the second through fourth gears. All gears are helically cut except first and reverse, which are spur gears.
Identification
The T98's progeny, the T18, used the same top cover as the T98 up through 1979. Many individuals assume they have found a T98 upon seeing the "T98" cast into the top cover, when in fact, it is a T18.
The only way to rule T98 out from being a T18 is to open the top cover and count gear teeth. The T98 will have a 43 tooth first-reverse sliding gear (the rearmost mainshaft gear, spur cut) and a 17 tooth cluster gear (also spur cut).

I saw that online when I looked up the t98 so I'm not 100% sure. The casting on the side is t98-1z WG DIV and another one next to it that's G31

On the top under the shifter it's stamped t98-148 and from what I see also has M 15

There may have been a 7 between that M and the 15, for a m715 jeep military truck which the t98 was used in. Is first gear super low? I have only seen 2 t98,s and would hold onto it if thats what you have in there

Not sure if there was a 7 I could just make out the M. Yes first gear is low and I know this is not the original trans to this jeep

It is a good strong transmission. Not sure if the connector for the wires that you said were hanging will fit. Since that trans was never offered in a yj. I just use a toggle switch for my reverse lights.

Ya here is the wire, I just zip tied it up out of the way for now im sure I can go without reverse lights for a while

Yep by the looks of the photo, it's different. The plug for the T-98 slips on from the side.
