New to forum, proud jeep owner going on 3 yrs now! I am upgrading to 35 x 12.5 tires and am having difficulty trying to figure out what to do about a spare.. I just have a standard spare on regular bracket now, There is no way a 35" tire will fit. I need to find out what I need for a new/stable bracket as well as to readjust the height of 3rd brakelight.. also have after market back bumper which may get in the way.. Ughh, is this more trouble than its worth? Seems like it's getting very pricey!! Help!

Welcome to Jeepz. There are simple kits available out there that wont break your pocket book. It's as simple as spacers and brackets to adapt a larger tire on the spare holder. Check out Quadratec or our local vendors here in the forum, they will have it.

Welcome to Jeepz

A 35" tire is going to be too heavy for the tailgate, and may eventually pull it off. I'm running a 33" on the tailgate using a spacer, and it rattles as I go over highway bumps (you can see it flexing the tailgate in the rear view mirror). I'd suggest that you get a rear tire carrier.

If you want to give it a try on the tailgate anyway, then you'll need something like this:
Tomken Machine TMH-0102-S - Tomken Machine Oversize Spare Tire Adapter for 87-06 Jeep® Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec
that will move the spare away from the jeep

For the 3rd brake light you can just use longer bolts through some PVC pipe to make it stand taller

then you'll need to extend the tailgate spare bump stops to properly support the tire. I used longer bolts and some PVC pipe for mine:

I see the "how to" easily, thanks. Do you think I am better off getting a spare swing instead of just an oversized carrier? I don't want to risk having to just redo it down the road.. Thanks.

Doing the same things I've done will only cost you $60 or so, while a quality tire carrier / swing will run you $600 - 1200. The swing would certainly be better, it's just a matter of money.
