My Jeep cherokee 98' sport has been broke down for a few weeks now. Took it to a mechanic and he said that my ASD components were not working. Says it could be the computer or bad wiring. Any suggestions? And how big of a deal is it to change that wiring harness? Will get more info tomorrow when I pick it up. And post exactly whats not working. Need help!!!!

I'm not familiar with the ASD system, and had to go look it up:

The ASD relay will be shut–down, meaning the 12–volt power supply to the ASD relay will be de-activated by the PCM if:

1. the ignition key is left in the ON position. This is if the engine has not been running for approximately 1.8 seconds.
2. there is a crankshaft position sensor signal to the PCM that is lower than pre-determined values.

It could be something as simple as a grounded wire or bad relay, the problem would be locating the problem.

Ive heard alot about crank shaft sensors. Is that something worth looking into? It cranks but wont start. No fuel pump or gauge. Gauges on dash dont come one. And I believe he said fuel injectectors arent working as well as not getting any spark.

My fiances dad, who bought the jeep. Said that they recalled a wiring harness after they bought it. Do you think that may have gone bad again?

Cranks but no start, no gauges may indicate a "No communication" from the PCM. Have the shop scan the PCM if possible to confirm. If their scantool is capable of scanning for other modules in the vehicle and communicate with it, they should be able to pull up a code( DTC). If the DTC is a "Lost communication with PCM" then have them check the 12v supply and grounds to the PCM with the ignition on. If there's voltage and ground, the PCM is most likely the culprit on this symptom.

CPS was bad. Fixed it. Then took it for a spin and busted a brake line. Easy fix. Guess thats what 250,000 miles will do to you.
