Need transmission for 95 wrangler 2.4

Hey friends. I got a 95 wrangler off this guy a few months ago, and now I got some horrible grinding in going into third gear, and sometimes 4th. I have been told by many others it could be the synchro's, so after calling around to find a price to fix it, I am debating selling the thing. I love it, but I am getting quoted 1200.00 to fix it. So, Instead, I am hoping someone out there has a used transmission that works good that they would like to part with CHEAPLY. It's either that, I just do do an entire engine swap, and upgrade. Either way, if you can help, let me know. Winter is coming!.. wait no. Winter is here. I am in Indiana.........

Hey don't give up on the transmission yet. You are right about the synchro's. My transmission has been doing this for awhile. Have you changed the transmission fluid ? this tends to help to change the fluid and add some type of oil treatment like LUCAS or slick 50 or any of the others. I changed mine and put LUCAS in it and it stopped grinding completely for about a year. It only does it now when it is cold and going into second gear. When it warms up everything is good.

$1200 for synchro's seems a bit steep. I had mine done a couple years back for half of that. However, if you're feeling adventurous, I have a spare that needs a light rebuild(input shaft bearings). I don't know if your mechanically inclined or not, but you could have it at a reasonable price and rebuild it yourself.

Most of a rebuild quote will be labor to remove/install the transmission. You can save a bundle by carrying the transmission into a transmission shop for a rebuild. At least this way they know you know your way around a wrench and are less likely to take advantage of you.

Try Redline MT90, it may cure your difficult shifts all together. It's a good synthetic that is easy on the soft brass synchros.

I had an old Toyota Supra with a "snickin" 3rd gear,I changed the fluid to Redline MTL and drove it hard for another 300,000+ miles and it never once bothered again.This is by far the best......expensive at about $9 a quart,but,worth a try.If ya still need a trans,contact me and I know a guy who does nutin but jeeps and has an yard of parts.Good luck!

Used AX5 trannies like yours run between $200-$400 on most jeep forums. I've shipped one before, it's not too bad once you remove the bellhousing.
