motor mounts

getting ready to replace a broken mount. Will I be able to handle this with a floor jack and hand tools, or do I need a lift? Any other tips?

Are you talking about a Motor Mount or Transmission mount?, What Vehicle do you speak of that we may be able to help you with? arrgg.

Ahh. Yes you should be able to this task with a Floor Jack. Do it one side at a time. i found that to be easier than doing both sides at the same time for alignment reasons. that's if you do plan of replacing both of them. A 2x4 piece of wood will also be handy to have as a spacer between the jack and the engine.

You'll be fine, just be careful. Just put a block of wood under the sump of the oil pan to raise the motor up. Make sure to undo the motor mounts first though. Be very very careful jacking up the engine from this point, and make sure to spread the load out. You really only need to support it if I remember correctly. Not much lifting...

Thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately I ran into bigger problems. The three bolts that hold the motor mount onto the engine are broken off in the block. Going to try penetrating oil and an ease out. I don't think there's enough room to drill and tap without pulling the engine. This looks to get expensive quick.
