might be getting a different Dana 44 now

Somewhat put it well. Once you start breaking upgraded 44 parts, there is no more room for upgrades. There is always room for upgrades on a Dana 60. I am not saying the 44 idea is completely out. It seems a lot cheaper, but I would hate to go buy all that steering crap for an axle that might not last.

man..beleive me when i can get my hands on a decent 60 front i will put it in...all i was saying was that my dana 44 has yet to fail  ..hehe..i just got suck a great deal on the axles i have now (31spline 9inch and 3/4 dana 44 for 200 Can) that i just decided to run em...i am still in college so i dont have the grand(us funds) to sell out for a 60....just yet

Dude, freaking tell me about it. I go to the University of New Orleans. TO make matters worse, I just bought a brand new Scion TC. I pay for all my bills with no help. It sucks not being able to put all our money into our Jeeps anymore.

yep, same here. They should give a discount on D60's to us college students!!

Now, anyone who says a D44 won't hold up to lots of power, weight, and big tires has been smokin' way too much of somethin!! You just have to drive it like it has a 44 up front. With that being said, I could easily go get in my truck and completely destroy the front end if I wanted to. You just have to know when to use the skinny pedal, and when to ease up on it.

That does not mean you still can't have fun though. I even do some minor rockcrawling in my truck just for fun everyonce in a while. I also keep 3/4 ton joints on the front of the front driveline...so I'll blow those up before anything in the front end.

As for bolt pattern, are you sure a 78 Ff 250 Dana 44 has a 8 x 6.5 bolt pattern? It is also a low pinion axle, wil that be a problem?

I keep forgetting that this axle will not work with 15" rims. So I guess I will not be using the 44.
