loosing power

i have a 84 cj7 witha weber carb and when i drive down the road my jeep will frequently start loosing power and speed no matter how much gas i give it and sometimes it backfires and misses any suggestions on how to fix this??[addsig]

clean carb, new ignition set, and check your exhaust pressure[addsig]

I would also check the timing, make sure the distributer is in tight as well. If it can rotate at all it will throw things off under the hood, doing exactly what you say, losing power, backfiring, ect..
