Leaking dash fluid....

So I start up my YJ this afternoon after a night of heavy rain, and when a switch on my heater I get a bunch (a couple of cups full) of water pouring out from behind the dash and the heater vents. Any idea why this is happening?

Sounds like two problems.
1) Cowl drain is plugged. It's the large rubber tube coming from the firewall near the passenger side of the valve cover. It gets flat at the end that prevents water from entering.
2) Leak in heater duct that allows water from the cowl into the heater. I've never had the heater apart, so no advice there.

You may want to turn the heater switch on and have somebody run a water hose over the cowl and windshield frame while you watch under the dash for the leak.

I have the same problem. After a rain, the first turn will be with my feet close up to the seat to avoid a good soaking. I assumed it was my windsheild frame gasket (seal aropund window is good) and I have a replacement, just haven't had a chance to put it in yet. I'll check out that drain tube this weekend, Bounty!

Soft Top Channel Sealing Problem

Bounty, I just pulled that drain tube and it was full of leaves and brown goo which I'm assuming was dead bugs and pollen (Yuck). I hope that was the root of the problem for me! Thanks for the post

i fixed that problem on my 87 yj by replacing the windshield frame and windshield frame gasket. Ithought for sure it was just the gasket but after 3 cd players i realized that it was actually coming through a rusted part of the frame right behind where the glass seals. probably not what you want to hear but that's the problem.

Thanks for the replies I will check the drains tonight, I hope its not a rusted frame.
