About how the torx bolts in my windshield frame, are so theftproof, I, the owner, can only get 1 out and have a successfully stripped the other 3 (rage is not a tool to help remove stupidass stubborn bolts) anyone have any tips? How much do you think I'm looking at to have them removed by a dealership or other autorepair shop?

drill the head off and then step down to a smaller bit and drill the center out and put an EZ out in it

Anyone have an estimate on how much it'll cost to get the dealership or someone to do it? Even if it's a very rough estimate.

since you have ground the head off turn your grinder sideways and grind a groove in it so you can use a flat head, or make 2 and use a Philips. other then that i would say maybe use a reverse tap and drill it out.

drill with your smallest bit and move up each size slowly. once you get to a certain point, it'll come out. either that, or hand over your debit card

Im no expert, but extramediums idea is awsome. I would use a dremel with a cutoff wheel and grind a gash in the bolt and use a flathead or douces and use a phillips. Bet thatll do ya real nice. Take your bolt to home depot or wherever and try and match the thread pattern and get a hex or phillips or whatever. It shouldnt be to hard to find a similar one.

But when you put the bolts back in, they need to sit flush with the body, and I think I may have a rough time finding that at home depot.

Im not exactly sure which bolts your talking about or if they do need to sit flush. It was a thought. You might have a rough time finding one at the Depot, but you will, and a hex will be much easier next time. if there is a next time.

Hey Jack,

I'm on the same boat as you, but I have a repair shop at my disposal. I have attempted all the above to mount my mirror movers. and all i have now is ugly wholes where there should be torx heads. Sucks big time. My shop has all drill sizes i could dream of, easy outs, penetrating oil, radiac, everything. I've even taken a torch to the bolts to try to melt some of the lok-tight. Nothing. I pray you don't get grey hairs out of this.

But if you do end up getting them out, let me know this elusive knowledge! I was planning on taking the old bolts to home depot and matching thread and length.

TWO WORDS! gator grip!!! I use mine for just about everything!

When you do get the bolts out just replace them with standand hex head bolts - they don't need to be flush. I went as far as to use only stainless steel on my cj7.
