my 1988 cherokee cut out on me, put in a new pump and filter started right up and ran for about an hour then cut out again.the fuel rail is getting some gas but not constant, checked the hose to the rail and that is not cloged. any one have an idea?[starts up when i use starter fluid but dies again]:bomb:

from my understanding, if it will start with starting fluid, even though its a new pump it might be bad. i would check connections first and go from there. it takes about double the psi to start the engine than it does to run, so if it won't start on its own, my guess is its not getting enough voltage, or its a bad pump.

ive checked the pump and its working fine any other ideas

You can take the pump out and run it or just listen for it to be running but just because its functioning doesn't mean its functioning properly. It may turn on and pump fuel but not with enough PSI to run the engine or start it. If your engine requires say 14 PSI to start and 12 to run but the pump is only pushing 5 PSI then it will seem to be working fine but actually wont be. And yes its very possible you got a brand new defective pump lol been there before

ok thnx ill try a new pump tomorrow and see if that does it. do u think it could be my injectors?

any holes in the fuel lines? fuel pressure regulater? plugged filter? I had an 88 aswell the float on the sending unit shorted out causing pump to quit. check that aswell. Hope you get it fixed
