Jeep for my gf...

In the past 11 months me and my gf have been dating she has spent countless hours riding in the passenger seat of my jeep. Her parents bought her a 93 eclipse but she's too short to see over the steering wheel and she hasn't quite managed to figure out the stick even after countless hours starting, stopping, stalling in parking lots(my poor neck). Her parents have decided to get rid of the eclipse and she is begging them to get her a jeep because she has fallen in love with mine. A girl at my work is selling a 98-99 tj, 2.5l, 31x10.5's, automatic, ac, with a supertop that's less than a year old. Her engine starting acting funny while idling/ speeding up and she took it to a shop and they told her an 02 sensor has failed/failing and it would cost her $600 to have it fixed so she said she'd sell it to my gf straight up for $3,500 or trade for less. I've looked at autozone and an 02 sensor is like $50 but i was wondering how hard it'd be for me to fix it for her and if ya'll would have any info to help me convince her parents to buy it for her(reliability of the auto transmission?) Personally i think it's a steal because i've looked everywhere and a tj that new is close to 10k on any lot.

$3500? Take it to your local autozone or advance auto or equivalent to check/verify the error codes. It's a free service at most autoparts shops. If that's all that's wrong with it $3500 is a steal.

Yeah she's already run the codes and they've told her which one has the problem. My gf's mom says she wants me to test drive it so i called my coworker and she's gonna bring it by saturday to let me have a thorough check of it. She said her parents replaced the axles so i'm gonna see what they put under there. Last time i popped the hood her engine was spotless and she's never had it off the pavement. Only set backs in tryin to sell it to my gf's parents are the bad o2 sensor(easy fix my dad tells me) and the cd player was stolen out of it last week and they pulled the air vents and ash tray(don't need anyways) out of the middle with it(how much would it cost to replace that?junkyard?) I'm excited and really want my girl to have a jeep so she can come pull me out when i need a tug.

For that price, it's definitely a steal. SNAP IT UP!!!! O2 sensors are a piece of cake.......that $50 one you priced comes with bare-end wires - you have to splice them to the old plugs (no problem, really). OEM ones (with the plug attached) are around $100.......but really, really simple to install. I've changed both mine out in my '03 TJ. I'm a cheap-arse and went with the bare wires. I'm also an idiot, but I installed them successfully - they come with pretty good instructions. Maybe you could have your dad help convince them how easy O2 sensors are to replace????

$600!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder they call them "stealerships".:(

My dad is very mechanically inclined and i'm not too shabby at wiring(i've done half the wiring on my jeep) and between us and my grandpa's tool and die factory we have the know how and tools to get any job done. With the prices shops want to charge nowadays, nobody knows how to fix their own cars and they can get away with it, it's almost cheaper to try and fix the part yourself and break it 4 or 5 times before you can even out to them fixing it once.

if it takes you more than 10 minutes to change the o2 sensor you need to seriously reconsider working on your jeep. when i got one for my zj, i want to say it was about 50-60 bucks, and it had the connectors on it, i didn't have to splice any wires. DEF an easy fix, not a $600 one.

my XJ the O2 sensors just screwed in and had plugs already on them. They cost me $50.00 each. Shop around for O2 sensors, but make sure thats all that wrong with it.

Uh....If she passes I will buy it. I bought an O2 on ebay for $30 OEM. They are very simple. Something was stolen out of the Jeep....NO WAY! :purple:

I think it's gonna happen. I had the girls jeep all day and my gf was around it and her parents said ok after we cleared it on the only thing wrong being the o2 sensor. I think she's gonna get it for her eclipse and somewhere around $500? the final deal hasn't gone down but i'm 95% sure it will. My brother is hoping it doesn't though because when me and my dad were checking it over i think my dad fell in love with it and he says if my gf doesn't buy it he is, meaning my brother gets it for his 16th birthday. Now which one do i want to have it more? the gf or the brother?

What I think sparky meant to say was "Bros before Hoes" (I know its spelled wrong but this is a family site!) ;)

Girlfriend is buying the jeep. Brother got a 2001 dodge dakota sport, 3.9L v6, 4wd, air intake, custom gauges, dual exhaust for his birthday. Pretty sweet truck and now i have somebody to come pull me out.

Yeah about all i have on him is that i can go places he can't and that i own a JEEP. He has air, air intake, dual exhaust, a big engine, custom dash gauges, and a shinier paint job(haha mine's always under mud). Just stormed i think we're gonna go out tomorrow and let me whip him around in the mud a little, break his truck in ya know.
