jacking up a yj high enough for SOA install

How did you jack up your jeep high enough for your soa install. I have to get the bottom of my springs 20 inches high. That is not the easiest task without a shop lift.

Been gone for a while

Well, a 4x4 wil get you almost 4 more inches, a 6x6 will get you almost 6 more inches.....

Or, if you have a bumper jack, that works.

Or stack some 2x4's under the frame of the jack (a stack just behind the front wheels, and a stack just in front of the rear wheels). It is usually very stable as long as you don't go TOO high.

Whatever way you do it, make sure to rest most of the weight of the vehicle on some jack stands as soon as you get it up to the desired height!!!

What do you recommend for getting the jack stands high enough? Whatever it is needs to be strong enough to hold the jeep up for a long time.

do you have your tires off while doing this. if not that is gonna make it a whole lot harder

no i want the tires on to make it easy to roll around. It is not easy lifting a dana 44, mush less possible to lift a 14 bolt.

ya, definatly take the tires off just so you can get the axles that much lower. As far as what to rest it on, I'm not sure. How many inches short will the stands be?

Taking the tires off is impossible. It will be way too heavy.

The jackstands need to be raised up another 6 inches or so. They are 6 tom jack stands, not the 3 ton jack stands.

sorry, you posted back too fast!! If you leave the tires on, how many inches short will the stands be? You might be able to use some boards as long as you can come up with something really strong and solid.

Ya, I forgot it was a 14 bolt!! Those definatly weigh a lot.

Buy a sheet of plywood or two for each side, cut it up into like 8 pieces (as long as their big enough to still be solid) and there you go ~6inches!

I was doing a test trial today to see how high I could get it. I used 5 square concrete stepping stones and some boards to put a jack on. I ran out of wood to put under the jack stands.

I got the jeep up high enough with the jack, but I do not feel like lifting one side of the jeep up at a time. It will be better to lift both sides equally at the same time. Besides, I was not too confident about using concrete stepping stones.

This is what I did...

I screwed together a buch of 2x4s to make the shord red jackstands higher. As for lifting it up, I got lucky and a guy I work with let me borrow his old shop lift. It actually had two arms about 3 ft. apart, so it lifted the whole side of the jeep up at once by the nerf bars.

If you have 2 hi lift jacks I would use 2 of them on one side, jack it up, put the stands under, then repeat with the other side. Oh and def. take the tires off... it wasn't that bad lifting up a D44

I dont know what you are talking about (not that bad lifting a dana 44), it is freaking heavy. At least mine is.

Sorry about the post above, I fixed the link...

Anyway, my D44 is out of a 89 XJ, 60" WMS, and I was able to lift it myself when I needed to. But when you put it under the jeep you don't really need to use any muscle at all. Just bolt the axles to the leaf springs when the spring pack is still attached to the jeep at one end... then swing up the other end of the leaf pack and bold it to the shackle.

Our dana 44's must weigh different then. Anyway, the 14 bolt has no chance of being done like that.

if you can get a buddy to help you drag it around that would be a great help, i just got mine up on four jackstands, took off the tires, pulled the springs cuz i was gonna replace them anyway so the axles came out with that and then i plopped the axles under, set them on top of a floor jack and had someone help me balance them while i was jacking them up. dont do it yourself this kind of lift is a little bit of a dangerous process especially if your stackin it up on blocks and stuff. DO NOT USE CINDER BLOCKS. and you can probably find some old skateboards laying around put those under the drums on the axle to roll it around?

I guess none of ya'll have ever lifted an '81 wagoneer front axle before. It is extremely heavy. I bench 200 lbs and my friend benches 215 lbs. We had a hell of a time just carrying it while standing up. I guess I need to go buy wood from Lowes. I think I will buy 2x6 boards and cut them. That will be used on the jack stands.

I just need to find a way to get my jacks that high without without using the stepping stones.

No, no skateboards around here anyway.

i used a jack-all to lift the jeep and railroad ties as blocking and 6-ton jack stands under the frame to hold her up...i jacked from the front and rear bumpers  Also i got mine up high enough that i could roll my front end UNDER 3.5 inch lift spring with the tires on....it was pretty tall tho..i will see if i can find a pic but i dont know how to host it

hehe i know what you mean about those heavy front end...i have never lifted a 60 but my ford 3/4 ton dana 44 was heavy enough for me

Joopins 44 was a rearend which makes it much lighter than a dana 44 front end.
