Sup all

I just installed a POS grant steering wheel last month and the horn goes off randomly and is a b**** to turn off. So, I finally got pissed and clipped the horn wire off. Now I want to install an air horn. Anyone ever done this before? It seems easy enough. Any tips?

Thanks, Eric

Not that this would help you any.But my friend said he is instaling a freight train loco horn into his silverado.Perdy funny if you ask me.I myself want a dukes of hazard horn. :D

U gonna mount a universal horn button since you clipped the stock wire?

I had a dual trumpet air horn in my 'ole 88 YJ, it was the generic $30 horn from the auto parts store. Had a small compressor. Mount the trumpets on the inner fender pointing down towards the bottom of the radiator. This allows water to drain and the sound gets out better bouncing off the ground.

I hooked mine up through a 3-way switch so I could use the stock horn or the air horn through the steering wheel.

So, you just bought a kit for like $30 that comes with basically everything you will need? I'll just need to mount the horn and run the wire up to the dash?

Yep, it's all in one kit at the auto parts store. $30 to $50 and you can get dual horn or triple horn. Instructions come with it, and I can't remember if a relay was used or not. Pretty simple setup, and a real head turner, the horn comes on kinda gradual as the air pressure builds up, sounds authentic.

My dad is actually going to help me install it. He used to have a dinky ford fiesta and put in an air horn. haha

Anyways, thanks for the info you guys and thanks for the link Mongo, I'm gonna buy it if the shipping is cheap. Otherwise I'll just go to pep boys!

Thanks!

yeah... it uses a relay... the compressor draws way too much to run off the 5A horn fuse... very easy to hook up... i have my dual trumpet along with the hooga horn hooked together... everyone knows when i'm around

Does that kit or any that you have seen include a button to sound the horn? I'd rather not use the horn cap if possible.

WTB: Skyjacker Pitman Arm Part number JA850.

how does that jc whitney horn sound in comparison to a stock one

"Anyone have info on the button? Thanks."

I looked all over the JCW web site with no luck, but you could try your local auto parts store...or Home Depot, for a small metal doorbell button.

OK, Thanks a lot for checking it out for me! I'll go down to pepboys this afternoon and see what they have. Thanks again!

Hey noskils32 I didnt see ant specific buttons at JCW, but if your local auto parts store is short of good horn buttons, try Home Depot for a "Stylish" doorbell button.

Yeah, I went to pepboys and picked up a horn but they didn't have any buttons so I will go to home depot. :) Are you sure that it will work mongo? I'm not quite sure how a doorbell works. haha

Thanks
