I notice the smell of fresh gas yesterday. I went back to check it out and i found some kind of hose with a rubber fitting that looked like it was coming from the gas tank that was hanging up by the inner part where the tail light is. It looks like it might have been broken off. Anyone know what this is?

thanks,

Gas filler hose. You can buy it from www.4wd.com for about $13.00. Mine is bad on my new (new to me) 1983 CJ7 and my new one should be here by the end of the week.[addsig]

I don't have any input for your problem, but just glad to see another Gator fan.. Goooo
Gators! Are you from Florida?[addsig]

Is it a large hose like what you would fill the tank through? Or a small hose like what runs to your carb?[addsig]

The gas filler hose is the hose that I believe ufgator16 described in the first post. It goes from the gas filler neck (the thing that the gas cap screws into which is close to the tail light) to the gas tank. There are two hoses that go from the gas filler neck to the gas tank, one is larger, that is the gas filler hose and the other is smaller, that is the gas filler vent hose.[addsig]

Then there are the two other smaller hoses, one is the gas tank vent hose that will, or should be connected to the roll over check valve and is usually clamped up in the corner where the tail lights are, the other hose is the return hose from the fuel filter which most folks have just clamped off.[addsig]

Gas leak bad Gators worse! Go Vols! hehehehe If I were going to replace a hose I would go ahead and replace them all while I was at it. They are all the same age and have led te same life so it goes to prove they are all getting ready to go bad. just my 2 cents. tug[addsig]

I havent had my jeep to gainesville yet, still trying to convince my dad that it will be ok on the highway. My fun is limited to tampa and the near by beaches and trails.

That is no fun. I mainly have the jeep to usein the woods, and just around town. So I don't trash my truck. Gets in a lot of mud and water up in Richloam, not sure if you have heard of it. We run our hounds out there, the jeep does very well in those harsh conditions. I am a true Florida girl. I need to get a lift put on mine are there any you recommend?[addsig]

My wrangler has a 2.5" pro comp sus. lift with a 1" shackle lift. I run 33's. I bought my jeep with the lifts on it, but if i had the chance to do it over, i would do with a 4" suspension lift with 33's. I dont have enough room with my 33's now.[addsig]

It could be the vent hose also ....What year??? :-D [addsig]

It is a 1989 4.2L The black tube is fairly small, with some kind of 90 degree black rubber fitting that looks broken off. I found it on the passenger side, not the driver side by the gas cap.[addsig]

Oh ok sorry I will look under my 88 4.2 to see if I can
find what you are talking about....What is it near???[addsig]

The tube looks to be coming from the front side of the gas tank. The end of it is underneath the rear passenger corner of the jeep.[addsig]

Sounds like your talking about the gas vapor hose(s). They are small diameter and go from the top of the tank to the Charcoal canister. The liquid gas lines will have hose clamps on them, the vapor lines just use plastic tees. My fuel tank has two of these, one on the top in the rear pass. corner of the tank, and one at the top front of the tank. They then run together to form a single line.

Hope this helps
