ignition/key switch question

I have an '04 wrangler and recently had a problem starting it. it would start one day fine and the next it would take a couple of trys. I have replaced the battery, starter is fine and we have figured out that if you don't turn the key very far it starts. If you turn the key all the way like you should to start it, it turns over but won't start...if you just barely turn it it starts...There is definitely something going on and I'm guessing it's in the key switch...any ideas what the problem is?

Welcome to Jeepz..I would suspect the issue would be more so on the electrical portion of the ignition switch rather than in the mechanical tumbler. The switch is easily serviced by removing the knee bolster panel, upper and lower steering column covers and the switch is on the lower left side of the steering column.. There is a security torx retainer that holds it in place other than the plastic snap in tabs. I don't remember if it's a T-10 or a T-15 security torx size.
