I'm a newb to the board but built a few jeeps including my own. last two
that I herc'd the tubs either had donor bolts of the same thread
to fill the holes or shot silicone(RTV) into the holes the day before to
make plugs that were pulled out with a pick. both ways worked fine
fortunately my jeep got a pro rhino lining job done by the former owner.

from what ive seen, the DIY brands, with any high traffic wear down quickly. yes the pro jobs cot more, but you get what you pay for.

You don't put the stuff on too thick, so not too much should really drip down in the holes. I just ran a tap through all of mine after I was done. I figured that was easier than trying to plug them and pick out the herculined plugs.

You can't beat the professional jobs , (linex, rhino) and they
can vary the thickness and texture. The Herc jobs I did were very
labor intensive and took alot of cleaning and sanding. its also a bit
abrasive to the touch when dry unlike the pro finish.

I put just a childs clay in the holes. After it dries the herculiner ontop of the clay is soft and you can poke through it and then push the rest of it through the hole and whats left is pushed down by the bolt.

Put the bolts back in the holes. You can clean them afterward with a wire brush if necessary. The Bondo Brand at Advance is the best DIY I have seen.
There is still no substitute for the professional spray ons. If I could do it all over, I would fork out the cash for the pro job.

I just Herculined my CJ last month. I'm VERY happy with the results, especially since I sprayed it on rather than rolling it on. Just fill any holes with a little balled-up masking/painters tape and you'll be fine. If you do this, remember that prep work is the key. The more complete your prep job, the happier you'll be with the results.

Oh, and do spray it in if you choose to Herculine.

how'd you spray it in yourself? i'd like to do that.... i have an air compressor, would a cheapo paint gun work?

I had to rent a compressor - only $25 a day from a local tool/equipment rental company. For a sprayer, look for a cheap undercoating gun. I looked for weeks and couldn't find one in my area...as a result I had to pay about $40 for a Duplicolor bedliner spray gun from O'Reilly. All in all, the added cost to spray the bedliner in was about $80-$90 but well worth the results.
