I have a 90 yj i have had an idle problem about 6 months ago and and one day it just went away .So the last couple of months i have been upgrading things like brakes tires ect and well last week much to my horror the problem reapeared.Originaly when i had the problemi had found a crack in the intake and got that fixed and it did nothing.any way i have replace the cap, rotor ,wires,plugs and checked every vacumn line and even bypassed the computer.I know the carb is good cause i tried my carb on a buddies jeep and his on mine and nothing changed on mine or his.the engine is a fairly fresh rebuild (2500 miles) good o2 sensor and EGR vale any one have any ideas .any suggestions are greatly appreciated.I have a 67 comaro with a fresh 350 in at at my buddies place but havent had time to play with it cuz my fav wheels ain runnin good and well like every one else i gotta work to

PLEASE HELP A TIRED JEEP connisuer (if thats the right spelling)


By the way i am usualy fairly knowledgable about the jeep engines and electrical and have any diagrams u might need so give me a holler

Could be a bad fuel pump? Lines? Tank? Clogged catalytic converter?

Have you ruled any of that out?

Perhaps a bad coil or alternator or battery, possibly a bad gasket or there is something screwy with the voltage at the choke wire?

I thought coil as well. summer can be bad on them because it can seperate the windings and cause failure

is the carb bolted tight to the base plate at the maifold seal (air leak)?

Fresh gas tank?

Add some alcohol and one teaspoon of white cane sugar into the gas tank.

Also, a hidden vacuum leak will cause this and if it is small the sugar will seal it, generally.

Interesting! That's the first time I've heard that sugar added to the gas tank can actually be beneficial! Small amounts, of course, not like the 5lb bags we used in our more destructive younger years..... :wink:

thanks the sugar thing does make sense you are talking about the carbon from the sugar possibly sealing a small leak in the manifold correct ?

a 5lb bag tho all i have is a 7lb bag will that do (kidding of course )but i will try a teaspoon for sure definitley makes sense .Just curious where did this idea come from i though i knew laot of tricks like pepper to seal a coolant leak but sugar wow .

hmm i wonder if for an automatic transmission if the fluid starts to get black maybe ketchup byight bring back the red color J/k

Pepper for a coolant leak? Never heard of that one. I've used a raw egg before to seal a hole in a radiator till I could get back to a shop.
