I am having a 10" Rock ready kit put on my 2002 wrangler 4.0 as I speak. I have till thursday to decide what size tires I want to go with. My question is will my wrangler pull 38's with a stage 2 jet chip and arid air flow system , will I have enough power off-road with these tires? If not what size should I go??? Please help I need to know soon.... :-O :-O [addsig]

if you are looking to go with 38s... you're gonna want to go with some stronger axles.. and some lower gears[addsig]

for 38" boggers i would go with a dana 60 in the rear and 4.88's front and rear...i would think a 44 in the front would be plenty strong. also, if considering an axle swap, look into a ford 9" axle in the rear.[addsig]

I would go with a 4.56 gear, because it's a stronger gear than a 4.88. Then I would get a new trans ,the NV4550, and a transfer case with a 4:1 gear ratio ,Atlas II. Axles I would use a Tera60R in rear, up front a Tera50R. Thats what I would do. [addsig]

What ever you put on there you are going to be driven a monster. Rope ladder to get in and out, oxygen system to avoid alditude sickness and you should be set. One more thing can I park under your Jeep some time? lol dang that will be a big ol jeep! tug[addsig]

higgins, (i feel like i'm on Magnum P.I.), doesn't the new sahara come with a Dana 44 rear axle? If you bought the jeep brand new, check the spec sheet and see if you already have the Dana 44. I think you do. But you definitely need different gears. I would say 4.88's, but you could get away with 4.56. I assume you're getting a SYE kit and CV driveshaft? So that should be ok. I would look into a stronger transmission and t-case before going serious off-roading. Look into a gear driven t-case, not chain driven. Send pics soon!

Jhiggins, I agree with everyone about new axles, gears, try a set of 36 inch tires, cheaper, and better articulation

You will have a tough time pulling those tires with the 4.0L and stock axle gears. You don't have to worry about installing larger axles, as those are only needed offroad. If you take a 10" lifted TJ offroad, it will surely play turtle and rollover on the first slight offcamber :-O

That much lift is a waste of money for a jeep that is regurlarly used on the trail. Save it for the car shows [addsig]
