I have a 1997 jeep wrangler sport and i got a bunch of wining in the rearend and now i have the check engine light on
but also now when iam in drive the rpm will rev up 4000 rpm or it will die at a stop sign:???: could you plz post if you can help me out to see whats wrong thanks eric. Blessings

What error codes is the check engine light / computer giving you?

Turn the key
On off on off on (not start,leave on the 3rd time) and watch the odometer it will display the codes

Count the blinks of the CEL. On 97'sit will not display in the odometer. I believe this started in 99 or 00.

If the rear is whining check or change the fluid, and look for leaks anywhere on the axel. Also check the U joints and transmission fluid.

For firing at stop. If it stays running in neutral with a bit of pedal depressed it is the iac. Clean it as above and verify the connections. It could also be the TPS. Check the wiring or replace with OEM parts.

You could also go to AZ or OReilly's and use their odbii code reader.

Post what codes you find.
