I thought about it but then again I have a yj and then i would have to take off the front part of my roll cage seems like a lot of work to get hit in the face, I dont think it is very practical but dont some compitions require the glass to be removed or you have to fold it down?

not hard at all... all the top bolts come out... then the lower most bottom bolts... then the roll cage is held in with one on each side... replace everything with a washer and bolt... or even some sort of winged bolts that you can easily remove by hand... then flip her down... tie it to the hood.. and you're done.... just make sure you have you door uppers on when you put it back... so you know you put it back far enough[addsig]

The main reason I've seen it done, is on the trail during rock climbing. The theory is that if the Jeep rolls, there is no stress on the glass so it won't crack or shatter.

I would assume it is like a motorcycle,as long as you have protective eye wear....but

I put mine down to go pig hunting, take the doors off, and have one foot on the ground when your shooting. Barley legal, but works well.

But not right now, it´s 10 degress here.[addsig]

I had mine down a couple of times. Every time I put it down and back up again, it wouldn't seal properly anymore and water would pour in behind the dash. I had to buy a new seal both times at $80 Canadian. You also have to make sure that it goes back in the exact same position it was in before you took it down or your top won't fit properly. It's more of a hasle than it's worth if you ask me.[addsig]

Ive often heard, (at least my dealer told me this) that putting the front window down, along with taking the doors off would crack the paint when you have to take the screws out and all that good stuff. Even though I like the idea of being able to do certain things like that in my jeep, my jeep along with being a jeep has also got alot to be said for style which I wouldnt particually like to mess up by cracking the black paint (which shows everything).[addsig]

Yeah... it does break the seal, but its easily fixed. Mine was already broken when I got it, and a lot of water was coming in. I ended up putting a small bead of silcone down and it stopped the leaks.[addsig]

As soon as my jeeps claws touch the trail, she drops the windshield! I really have on say in the matter! If it rains, I break out the tarp till it ain't There's nothing like wheeling 7000ft in the sierra's on granit, during a thunder storm complete with lightning! Rubicon baby. Gota luv it!

I'd say "Don't knock it till ya try it" As far as I know, it's not street legal to drive with the windshield down in CA. But I have seen it done in the small back country towns.
