Will a Amc engine out of an ambassader(327 or 326) fit in my 2002 tj?

The Rambler/AMC 327 is not the same engine as the ever popular GM/ Chevy 327; I believe it is a lot heavier than the Chevy plus in the early days AMC didn’t standardize bell housing bolt patterns so that could be an issue. As an older odd ball I would expect rebuild parts for the 327 would be more expensive and harder to come by than the later AMC motor such as the 304,360, & 401. Rebuildable AMC 360 motors come up in the bone yard and Craig’s list for near nothing and should fit your engine compartment too.

I have a 360 in my 97 TJ. came out of a 2001 dodge ram 2500..with trans..and was able to adapt to TJ t-case ....computer and all ...all I did was buy a wrecked dodge 2500 for a 1000 bux and pilfered all the parts for the build.

the first pic shows where on the frame the engine mounts were welded to.
second pic shows how long the whole assembly was during mock up
third pic was after rebuild and paint...but you really don't need to make it all pretty...just functional
last pic shows how it looks in the engine bay....
