Engine help

No, probly a vacuum leak or stuck throttle. Spray some brake cleaner around the lines and throttle body if the engine picks up theres your problem. Spray some wd on the throttle cable and look inside the throttle boddy make sure theres not a bunch of build up.

the best thing to do is let us know what was done before you started having this issue we could help you a lot faster
this way

but heres a few things you could do to find the problem

best way is use a spray bottle with soapy water spray all your small hoses coming from the carb or throttle body you will see bubbles when you find the leak (remember engine needs to be running when you do this )
another thing you could try is disconnect both battery terminals touch both together than reconnect this will reset computer which may or may not solve your high high rev issue ,
also could check the timing it's possible it's out of time

Will you really see bubbles when the vacuum leak sucks air 'into' the engine?

I recommend an unlit LP bottle, the idle will increase when you find the leak.

I haven't touched the carb. When i traded my cj2a and bobcat welder for it. It was my first time buying a jeep. He didt really tell me why it was idling so dang loud. All i did was changed the filter, spark plug, painted the rims, changed the oil filter, changed the engine oil at the same time to, changed the transmission oil and transfer case, changed the rear and font axle oil and dropped and cleaned the old gas tank. He said he had the engine rebuilt. its also been sitting for about ten years.

O the engine has about 90 thousand miles it to. But since is has a rebuilt about 2 thousands on the new rebuild so he says.

The timing was off by 3 inches. Moved the straight line were the repair manual says it needs to be. Putting belt and alternater house back together now

insufficient funds said:
Spray some brake clean around the hoses. When the, motor, picks up thats where your leak is

It's a good thing the intake is on the opposite side of the plugs as the brake clean trick is also a great way of finding bad plug wires. haha. Speaking from experience.

Thats what i did no leak. Have to find a way to reach to the idle screw. I was able to unscrew it a small bit and it to brought to down a to 1700

Maybe it's my eyes playn tricks on me but it looks to me like the little caps that plug off the unused vaccume on the carb are cracked. That's where the vaccume leaks are.
