Can anyone remind me how to get the engine codes out of a 99' TJ

Turn the jeep to accessory 3 or 4 times, on off, and read the odometer.

Use a search engine like google and enter "jeep trouble code xx" where xx=trouble code and you can generally find all you need to know.

Most auto parts stores will pull the trouble codes for free.

Not sure it works on a '99 but try this:
Key off, push and hold the odometer reset button.
Turn key to run (not start).
Turn key off.
Release odometer reset button.
Trouble codes may appear in odometer window.

If the gauges cycle and the odometer reads 000000 1111111 etc, you released the odometer reset button too early.
