Electrical problem - Jeep seems possessed

I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee and when ever I either turn right or go over a bump the doors lock/unlock and the interior lights flash on and off, sometimes staying on until I either turn left or go over a bump. I can hear the interior light relay clicking in the fuse panel but with that taken out the doors still lock/unlock.

Any ideas what may be causing this ????[addsig]

first off, its a jeep, not a car. and second, id say u have a loose connection somewhere, probibly in ur relay. you can try to replace that and see what happenes. [addsig]

Don´t know for sure, but the gizmo that holds the door open has been known to saw through the wiring harness inside the door on occasion. Fairly common occurance after the sterio guy, has installed new door speakers.

Have also seen sticky switches, after the kids spilled a coke in the works.

Have also seen ground problems, sometimes a loose ground will cause strange things to happen. The door ground, on some models is behind the kick panels. On other models on the bottom of the dash, near the courtesy light. [addsig]

The first thing I always do before I go hunting out an electrical problem is reset your computer. unplug the battery for 5 mins and hook everything back up. I have had a few electrical problems that were easily fixed this way. It may not do the trick but its a good easy first step before you go hunting for loose connections.[addsig]

Thanks for everyones help.

Heres what the problem was...

The drivers side door hinge pins and bushings have become worn over time. This causes the door to be slightly off center when closing which in turn (again over time) caused the doors latch to become loose from hitting the the body latch. With the door not sitting tight (door latch became loose), while driving, the door would slightly open and close causing the doors light switch to activate several times a minute. The situation was made worse when making right turns as the weight of the jeep shifted slightly opening the door even more. Conversly when turning left the door would close tight, turning off the lights.

The movement of the door when closed was less than 1/8th of an inch, but enough to activate the switch.

Solution:

Tightened the doors latch so the door now holds tight, and need to replace the doors hinge pins and bushings to completely correct it.
