Electrical and/or Fuel problem

I have an '02 Liberty and a couple weeks ago I had a brand new battery put in. Less than a week later I drove to a meeting roughly 1/2 hour away. When I left the meeting, I went to leave and I turned the key and all that happened was clicking. My friend was also there so we threw some jumper cables on it and it started up but if I took my foot off of the gas it would shut right down.

The next morning I had it towed to the town I live in and when I called to see if I could get my garage door opener out of it they said I could pick it up because it evidently started right up for them and they drove it all around town and never acted up.

It has been running just fine until today (a week since the towing). I ran some errands this morning and I went to run to the store later and I got the clicking again. I don't have anyone available to give me a jump to see if it does the same thing it did last week.

Any thoughts on what this might be? I have some road trips coming up in May and June and I dread this happening on those trips.

Thanks for your input.

First thing I would do is run by an "AutoZone" or other parts store and let them check your alternator. Sounds like it might not be keeping your jeep going. If it has gone bad then you are running from your battery.

I am sure there are other reasons this may happen (and I am sure more suggestions will be along shortly) but I would start with the alternator.

Along with Susan's advice, get your battery tested. An intermittent no start suggest's a bad cell. it's not always evident but it will leave you stranded in the worst time. Another thing to check is the PDC cable from the battery and the starter cable. Make sure the connections are secured.

I am hoping to get it in for testing tomorrow. It almost started this morning and I just went out and tried it again and it started but stopped running as soon as I took my foot off the gas. My guess is that it will be running normal tomorrow morning.
