Electric Vs. Industrial/normal winch.

What are advantages of one over the other? I have an optima yellow top, if that helps at all.

Be more specific. IMO, when you say "Industrial" to me it means a PTO type winch, not electric. If your looking for a heavy duty electric application winch, look into the low gear reduction type winch sytems.

Basically, I'm looking for a winch for when I'm offroading. And when you go to 4wheelparts website and you go to look at winches you get to choose from electrical recovery winches, Hydraulic Recovery winches, and Industrial winches. So i'm trying to figure out what i should look into buying.

I would go with elecrtic because..

Hydraulic winchs, while in-destructable, only work with the engine running, are very slow, and will require quit a bit of plumbing if you have Hydro assist or Full Hydro steering.

electric winch have a risk of over heating, but they are quick, will work with the vehicle running or dead.

I agree with JPS4Jeep....I've had good luck running electric winches. If you use the reciever mount & disconect plugs you can transfer the winch to the rear or to another vehical if needed.
