driveshaft clearance problem

I just installed a 727 transmission in my cj7 and the front driveshaft will not go in with out hitting the transmission. I have a 360 with a 300 transfercase. I have 3/4 chevy axles full width and I installed a deeper transmission pan so it wont stall out on hills. I have about a 9" over stock lift. The transfercase is in stock location. The front driveshaft has a double u joint (cv style) on the transfercase. Will clocking the transfercase flat fix this? Or is there any other suggestions? Thanks

i was thinking as i read that clocking is probably the cure.... look into that option to clear that transmission - sounds like a sweet setup!

Ditch the deep pan. It's not necessary anyway. Never had an auto stall on a hill. Probably don't need the double Cardan CV either if that helps the clearance issue.

I stood my tj on its rear bumper climbing a rock face and the transmission would not engage. Its like being in neutral revving your engine and dropping it into drive. It will break something. I dont want this to happen again that is why I installed the deeper pan. I have the clocking ring coming already. I will see if it works.

Never had that happen before with my TH400. Interesting.

The difference with the 727 and the 350/400 trannies is the pump placement. The 350/400 is in the middle, where it can almost always pump fluid, the 727 I believe is nearer the front, making it harder to pick up fluid when up on end. Don't quote me on this because I might have it mixed up with a 700r4

i would think that the 727 is close to the 904 i have. if i had 9 inchs of lift mine would probly hit the transmission where the pan bolts to the transmission. if i'm wrong please stop reading and disregaurd anything said. if i'm right then clocking the transmission is the only answer. you will of course have to play with different configurations.that goes without saying. mine only has a 4.5 inch lift and i notised a change in the front driveshaft angle. itused to run above the pan / rail lip and is now quite close to it. not enough to warrent any problems at full streach, but enought to see. well good luck is all i can say. let us know how it turns out

I stopped reading at clock the transmission.

I get my clocking ring tommorow. My driveshaft does hit right at the pan bolts. I am going to try to put it on tommorow and let you know. Thanks

besides - transmission clocks dont work on the same time zones as regular clocks -
seriously... jt - let us know how it works out!!!
