Driveshaft Angle

I know very little about this drivetrain stuff so far, but I am trying to learn... I am researching what would be necessary to dump my quadratrac unit for another transfer case, while keeping my TH400.

I have heard dana 18 would be good because it has outputs at the same location (both on passenger side). Then I ran across a post on a FSJ website that said your t case output didn't have to line up with your differential input. In other words, you could have a center output t case, like a dana 300, hooked to an offset differential, like my quadratrac amc 20 rear. The driveshaft would be on an angle to the side, as well as down with whatever lift you had. The people were saying that it wouldn't cause any problems... Is this right, or are you just asking for trouble with something like that?

Thanks all.

You're just asking for trouble with that setup. Get a center diff AMC20 if you switch to a transfer case with a center rear output. That rear axle would be easy to come by.

as far as the angles of the joints themselves, it would not cause a problem... but as far as being in the way of too many things, and putting torque on parts in directions they were not designed for, yeah, it could be a no no.... it CAN work... i'm not saying don't... but i certainly wouldn't

Got mine "fixed" too

I thought you guys would say that, but I wanted to confirm my suspicions. After I posted, I realized that it might not be as bad in a full size Jeep, being that they probably have a longer distance between the tcase and axle, resulting in a smaller angle for the same offset.

I will stay away. Thanks!
