Does SOA + 4" lifted Springs = good Idea?

Building a stroker out of a 4.0L

Hi all!

Im in the process of a huge (frame up) build up of my YJ. Among the many things upgraded, I have a set of SJ Dana 44s to swap in. Im at the point in this project where I am removing the old perches and tossing in some new ones, as moving them in a little to match the YJ width. ANYWAYS...

I noticed today that the SJ must have had a rear SOA from the factory. So I thought well...

Since Ive come this far, and am in the process of placing the perches where ever my heart desires, I thought -

-Why not do an SOA? Ive got new perches.

Trouble is, I also have 4" springs, 1" lifted shackles, and a 1" body lift. I see no problems. However, I worry about highway manners. Its my Daily Driver. ( I can be good ;) )
But the devil on my other shoulder says, go ahead! Theres plenty of other Jeeps 'round here riding 8" in the air!!

Oh yea, will my 33x12.5s look funny?

Input desperatly needed, Im at the crossroads!!

Are the axles full width? If it sees anything other than mud and road, then I would say stick with the sua. If you think you can manage the driveline angles (is it possible?), and you really want to be that high up (I wouldn't, 12" just seems like alot for a jeep  ), then I imagine it could be done. I bet you could easily fit 40's if you do a spring over.

RE: HOLY $@#$ dont know what else to try

yes your 33s would likely look small

i don't think its the best idea, but it can be done

you're going to be looking at extreme driveline angles and might want to instal a motor lift AND a TC drop to better lower the tailshaft... this is of course along WITH the sye. Even with the sye and a double cardan, it is likely going to be too much for the joints. I could be wrong, I'm sure its been done some way or another. You can also offset drill your spring perches to move the axle back somewhat

RE: Heater Core Bypass?

So I should probably just either keep it the wy it is, or get stock springs...?

30x9.50 BFG AT

either soa with stock-2" springs or keep it as it is

Jeep Trailer???

thanks,

thats what im thinking... if I go with the SOA (if I can find someone who wants to trade + a lil cash) Ill do the SOA. What about my 33s? Are they going to look teeny with an SOA, 1" lifted shackles and 1" body lift?
About the driveline,
As mentioned, im doing a frame up at the moment, I have a Tom Woods SYE kit too, Ill order the shaft when I get everything pretty much done.. Im guessing it will be the last thing I do since I need to know where everything sits loaded up...

My springs are 4" lifted Rubicon Express New in March.

I can see reasoning on going to SOA for the flex and for moving the springs/U bolts out of the way of rocks. If I were you, I'd go ahead and find someone with a stock Jeep willing to swap springs (or just buy a set and sell your RE springs) and also go back to stock shackles. I understand that YJ springs can be swapped into a CJ7 fairly easily too. That would give you the 5" or so + your body lift netting around 6" just as you have now. Your steering and driveline angles will be nearly the same as they are now and your 33's will still be a good fit not to mention it would be much more driveable on the street.

If you are sitting at 6" now you need to decide if a SOA is worth it. Since you are swapping axles anyway I say go for it, but there's really no need for those 4" lift springs as you'd only be asking for headaches, time spent and alot more money invested.

Can you still return the 4" springs? Considering they've never been used?

If you want SOA, i'd call and see if they can be returned, then find a friend or a wrecking yard with some stock leaves off of another vehicle and pick them up for cheap

daystar urethane motor mount install & driving review

There is no way in hell I would go from a set RE 4" springs to a factory spring SOA. I say keep the BL and shackles in place to make up the extra lift and enjoy the better setup.

I recommend the SOA. I found a local jeeper who will buy my 4" springs AND give me his stock springs. I'll be going SOA when the D44's go in my YJ.

RE: Feed Lindsay Lohan

SOA is the way to go. Any leaf sprung Jeep I'll ever own will go SOA

RE: How to dispose of hardtop?

I also have been contimplating SOA... for some time now. How much spring lift would I need to clear 39" boggers? Cutting is not a problem, just tell me where  , I have a full width D60 for the rear and might have a Waggy D44 for the front (would the D44's take 39"s if I kept them unlocked?)
