Cooling Hose

New problem same Jeep-75 CJ5. I am running 220 on temp gauge running a 304.

Radiator is new, heater core new, hoses new, and a motorad failsafe thermastat..

I put the thermastat in boiling water to check it-works.
Flushed cooling system, and back flushed-good.

Bottom radiator hose is not hot. What's up?

Water pump seems tight, no leaks-nothing to be suspect. Only thing I can think of is that the pump is bad somehow.

Thanks guys!

From my personal experience with the 304 that used to be in my CJ, after a lengtly and thorough diagnostics for the same reason, i finally found the problem. It ended up to be a hairline crack on the cylinder head on the right side(passenger). Knowing that it was hard to locate one cylinder head at the time, it was easier and quicker for me to just drop in a 360 to replace the 304. I'm not saying your engine has the same problem but that would be one of the things to put on your checklist along with the head gasket.

Do a combustion gas test on your cooling system. It tells you if you have a leaking head or head gasket. Kits are avail at some parts stores it screws to your radiator and uses another container with a special fluid.

I've done a lot of work on the cooling system on 'Betty' over the last couple of years, during the summer she can reach 210 but is stable. Sould I be concerned?

Nah. Most new veh run 220 as normal. Keeps oil cleaner longer. It evsporates moisture and fuel etc.

Early model vehicles were NOT intended to run that hot.Later model ECU controled vehicles were intended to run that hot. Most ECU vehicles came with a 197 degree thermostat. In the older Non ECU vehicles they came with a 180 degree thermostat. In The older vehicles we used to fix them if they ran 210 degrees. Now they have to run that hot for proper fuel mixture.Among other things.

My 84 chev runs its best at 200. Running that hot will only hurt something if your running way lean. Most veh of that vintage run way to rich which will cool the comb temps. Most new veh run a 190 thermostat but they still run way hotter. Just like tge older veh. On my 84 215 is half way on the temp guage.

I have been turning wrenches for a living all my life.My Dad opened our Garage in 61.I have NEVER seen a late model vehicle with a factory thermostat that wasnt a 197 degree.Unless it has been changed.
