So it looks like I'll be buying my Jeep this weekend. '79 CJ7, Chevy 350, at. The only problem is after I pick it up, I have to drive it home (about 6-7 hr. drive). The driver seat is in pretty bad shape but the passenger seat is perfect. I don't know if I could handle that long of a drive in a broken seat. Can I swap the driver and passenger side seats?? They look like they are symemtrical. They are the stock half seats. [addsig]

In my 85 CJ7, with high back seats, they are different.

The driver's seat has bolt holes that are closer together. Having said that, I used two passenger seats in it for about a year. I just put the pass. seat on the driver's side, and bolted up the two front bolts. Seemed to work ok, but I don't know if it would be considered safe.[addsig]

rwellman, good looking jeep! Do you recall what size front tires those are? Is there any lift on it, or is it stock. I'm looking for replacement sizes for a stock 81 CJ7, and those look like a nice size, not too big, not too small.. Thanks.[addsig]

The seat brackets are different, but the seats unbolt from the brackets and should be interchangeable

I agree with baretta..

When i bought my '82 cj, the seats were in wretched shape and i opted to swap the passenger seat for the drivers so i could drive it. It was a pain in the arse to seperate the seats from the brackets with all that rust and even MORE of a pain in the arse since some dipshit had WELDED the drivers side bracket to the floorboard.

Thank goodness for socket wrenches

That jeep does look pretty nice... the seats should be easy to replace, but the rest of it looks well maintained.

The drivers seat looks like it had been rotted from being left out in the rain too much with the top down.

Check the electricals in the dash real good, and you should be fine.[addsig]

Well, it's not mine quite yet. The guy is asking $3900 for it. I'm going to try to get it for ~$3400 or so. I will be flying into L.A. friday night and will try to close the deal Saturday morning. Then I'll drive it home about 350 miles north to the San Francisco bay area.

Thanks for everyone's help with the seat issue. Looks like I'll be packing some tools with me on the plane so I can swap the seats for my exciting long drive home with no doors/top.

not meaning to rain on your parade, but good luck getting through security with a toolbox. I just flew from philly back to DC, and they conficated an allen wrench from my carry on, along with my cigarette lighter, saying that they were banned items.

maybe you'd do better checking them in.

I'd also recommend buying a bikini top before you leave. It'll make it much nicer if you hit some rain.[addsig]
