I have a 98 Sahara 4.0. Can I put an 02 4.0 in it? What will I need to do this? Can I do this?

The pre 2000 4.0L still had the distributor cap and separate wires to the spark plugs. 01 and up went to a true cam shaft position type (wells) sensor. They also included a full coil pack type rail system. Other than that there is not much difference. The main things you will need to get from the donor vehicle is the engine bay wiring harness and ECM A quick call to the tech's at painless wire might help in that regard. Some one correct me if I am wrong but I do believe the 98 fuel pump delivers the same amount as a 01+ system requirements. As for the EPA stuff....well that's a hard one. not sure of the differences but if you have the option to pull these from the donor as well, make sure if you can to grab the the brackets for the charcoal canister and evp emission valve. on the drivers side fender well.

Awesome. Thanks. The donor is an automatic. Mine is a manual will I need to find an ECM from an 02 with manual Trans?

That's a question I cant answer off hand, maybe sending a PM to Steelheadz might provide an answer. Or the guys at Painless wire, tech department could answer that. It might be as simple as re-flashing your 02 ECM, which your local stealership could do and might be able to answer that question as well.
Personally I love rock crawling with a slush box. I cant imagine trying to climb Moab or the Arizona desert rocks with a clutch to operate. But each to their own.
